Sarah Jibril, the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Moral Values, on Tuesday in Abuja urged Nigerians to be law abiding at all times.
Jibril gave the advice at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Risk and Accident Prevention Society of Nigeria (RAPSON) and her office.
She explained that the MOU was for the implementation of the National Traffic Camera Surveillance and Safety Certificate Scheme.
``Nigerians should learn to share the road freely with others. Roads are for public use and nobody has more right than another to use it. This will promote peace and unity.’’
Jibril added that ``part of the values we have is respect for human lives.
``Ethics is all about good character and behaviour. So, I urge you to obey the law of the land and teach others good character,’’ she said.
She called on leaders to live by good character, adding that it would enhance peace and unity in the country.
Ben Odohofre, Chairman of RAPSON, an NGO, explained that the scheme would guarantee safety of lives.
Odohofre said RAPSON was established in 2001 to ensure prevention of crime and road accident in the country.
``The scheme is to keep perpetual surveillance on accidents and unethical behaviours to ensure safety of lives and property.
``RAPSON will deploy 10,000 units of smart cameras and 14,000 memory sensors nationwide.’’
He added that the scheme will boost the revenue base of the government and improve the nation`s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
``The scheme will create job opportunities for about 300,000 professionals in different fields on permanent and pensionable basis.
``This will help to reduce poverty and hardship in our society.
``It will also help to reduce crime as most idle persons who are vulnerable to criminal activities will be productively engaged,’’ he said.
