The alleged police complicity in the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, the Principal Private Secretary to Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo, is baseless, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has said.
Mr. Abubakar made the remark on Friday at a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja.
“The matter is now in court. But we are going to reply at the appropriate time and soonest. The allegations are unfounded; we are going to reply appropriately.’’
Mr. Oshiomhole had said in Abuja on Thursday that the police either ordered the killing of Oyerinde or were shielding the killers.
The governor also said that the police claimed that Oyerinde’s killers, as well as the gun used in murder, were in their custody at the time of the incident.
The IG said the essence of the meeting was to appraise the past strategies and performance of the police.
“It was also to evaluate our achievements, challenges and then set new agenda and course of action.”
