Residents of Idi Oro, Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State were shocked yesterday when news filtered round that the Oluwo Ogboni of Egbeda, Kasim Adeniran, had committed suicide.
Adeniran, 27, was reportedly found hanging by a rope to the ceiling in his father’s house.
His daughter, Anifa, said she had seen her father with a rope on Friday and he informed her of plans to do something with it early the next morning.
She also said Adeniran had given her his mobile phone and a suicide note before carrying out the act.
The suicide note was said to have been taken away by police officers attached to the Akanran Police Station. It reportedly indicated that Adeniran was suffering from marital and financial problems.
Sources say he had had a spat with his wife, Modinat, a few weeks before the incident which led to her packing her belongings out of the home but later returned.
Family members refused to allow the police officers to take his corpse away saying certain rituals have to be performed on it.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Ayodele Lanade, said he did not have any information on the matter.
