The National Population Commission, NPC, has embarked on a biometric capturing of all Nigerians, in order to allocate a number to every Nigerian, to uniquely identify him or her from birth to death.
This is to curb insurgency and reduce crime levels in the country.
This much was disclosed in Abuja by NPC Chairman, Chief Festus Odimegwu, who revealed the biometric capturing would also be applied to all people resident in Nigeria.
According to Odimegwu, the biometric identification would help streamline the avalanche of foreigners into the country and reduce the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery and activities of Boko Haram in the country.
In his words: “We are going to do for the first time in Nigeria a comprehensive biometric census. To record all Nigerians, their biometrics, give them one number that will follow them from birth to death.”
