INDICATIONS have emerged that political leaders in the North Central have commenced moves towards ensuring that the geo-political zone produces the next president on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nigerian Tribune learnt that during the last meeting of some of the strategists rooting for the presidency for the zone in Lafia, Nasarawa State which had representatives of some of the governors in the zone in attendance, it was unanimously agreed that immediately the coast is clear for the North to produce the next president, the North Central should work towards having a consensus aspirant.
A source close to the meeting revealed that one of the reasons advanced for this was that the zone had contributed a lot towards the stability of the country and helped others at different times towards achieving their political aspirations, therefore, the time had come for the zone to be compensated.
A similar position was re-echoed on Monday in Jos, Plateau State, during the thank you visit of Niger State PDP to its counterpart in the state. Niger State PDP chairman, Dr Mahmood Abudulrahman, said the party was in Plateau to cement the existing good relationship between members of the party and to thank the state chapter for supporting its candidate for the position of National Youth Leader in the last convention of the party.
According to him, the thank you visit would further reinforce existing cordial relationship for future elections, adding that the purpose was also to set the pace for others on the need to appreciate any good gesture.
Dr Abdulrahman, who said the visit had no link with the presidential aspiration of any governor in the geo-political zone, however, stated that the North Central was tired of being kingmakers, adding that the time had come for one of the kingmakers to become king.
