The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed not to engage the Action Congress of Nigeria or any other opposition political party in further propaganda. The PDP stated this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Thursday.
According to the statement, replying opposition parties’ propaganda statements was capable of derailing its programmes. Metuh was reacting to a statement credited to the ACN in which it accused the PDP and the President Goodluck Jonathan administration of pandering to sectional statement.
He said the PDP had resolved in 2013 not to engage the ACN or any other opposition party in evil politics of propaganda and envy. According to him, the PDP will only concentrate on how to ensure that the dividends of democracy are delivered to the electorate.
His words: “If the PDP continues to concentrate in replying the ACN or any other party in their gospels of blackmail, abuse and hatred, it will distract us as a party in delivering democracy dividends to the electorate, as well as improving the standard of living of the people, which are the main goals of the PDP as a political party.”
He added: “This is why Nigerians cannot trust the ACN or any other party that associates with it with leadership of the country… How can a political party aspiring to the Presidency be so consumed with the preaching and sowing seeds of bitterness and hatred in the minds of the people they want to lead… Nigerians are no fools. They are watching with keen interest the seeds of bitterness and hate that the ACN and other political parties are sowing among the populace.
“No right thinking Nigerian will cast his or her vote for such a party that propagates schism, and bitterness among us… What we need at this moment of nationhood is unity and brotherliness and not politics of hated and bitterness.”
