Stereoman Ekwe bounces back after murder scandal

I didn’t kill Rekia Idris, Stereoman says.
Last year was no doubt a tumultuous year for Sunday Osakuni, aka Original Stereoman Ekwe, after he was indicted in the death of the mother of his only surviving child, Rekia Idris.

According to the artiste whose hit song, E dey Pain Me, made waves a few years back, his ordeal began after he was invited upon by homicide detectives, Force CID Panti, Yaba, Lagos following allegation that he strangled and killed Rekia in her Honda Civic car, in April 2012.
The incident no doubt affected the fortunes and career of the dreadlocked artiste what with the bad press and scandals that followed suit. Fans have been concerned about the whereabouts of the Delta-State born artiste and for the first time, he opened up about the incident.

The ‘jungle musician’ who says he has been out of prison for some months said he has begun appearing at various shows/concerts. Narrating his story, he said, “What happened was that the woman had a baby for me several years back and we were not together for two years, suddenly she died. The family started accusing me that I was the one they suspected, that I was the one that killed the girl. We had separated for long and we weren’t living together for two years. I didn’t marry her legally.”
Speaking further, he added that although he was in a relationship with late Rekia, he was never married to her.
“We had a relationship and from there she got pregnant. When she had the baby she started claiming that she’s my wife. I am from Niger Delta, any woman that is not submissive we don’t keep her at home. I told her to leave, that I didn’t want her again. I didn’t set my eyes on her for long until when I heard that she died. Then I was in Holland during Easter time. They now said that I was the one that killed her. That’s how the case started. I went there to identify with the sister that this corpse was my former woman. That’s how I got to State CID in Panti, Lagos,” he said.
Declaring an undying love for the only product of the ‘union’- a baby girl, he insisted that the deceased’s family have refused to grant him custody of the child.
“I love my baby though it has been long I saw her. They can let me take care of her. They are with the baby. I don’t even know where they are right now. It’s not that I don’t want the custody of my child, but they are fighting me. I think it is because we are not a couple anymore. They felt I’m the one that killed her but they are mistaking. Even people that marry legally do divorce let alone when you talk about casual relationship. A woman had a baby for me but her character was not good and I asked her to leave, is that a bad thing?” he said.
For now, Stereoman, who says he is a fashion designer with a passion for music, says he is cooking up some new jams.
“I travelled out of the country, I just came back. I am busy now by the grace of God; I am going to drop my hip hop and R&B albums very soon. It is something very different. Just watch out for the albums, they are going to be released by February and March next year,” he said.
