Arewa youths, under the aegis of the Hope Arewa Development Initiative, have warned against
move by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to remove former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a member of the Board of Trustees of the party.
They argued that removing the former Vice President and others that had defected from the party before as recommended by the Jerry Gana-led Reconciliation Committee would spell doom for the party in the 2015 general elections in the North.
Coordinator of the Arewa Dicussion Forum, a political arm of Hope Arewa Development Initiative, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim, in a statement in Kaduna on Monday, noted that the recent report indicating that Atiku and some other prominent PDP members would be removed from the BoT was “most unfortunate, unheard of, and a further move to destroy the PDP in the North and the nation as a whole.”
Ibrahim, who claimed that the group was aware of moves by some elements within the ruling party to frustrate the former Vice President just to weaken his aspiration, noted that it was in the party’s interest that Atiku and others decided to return to the party “they build”.
