Mickey Mouse has become the talk of the toon as Disney announced yesterday that he is making a
comeback in a series of cartoons.
The 19 episodes will be screened on the Disney Channel starting in June.
Bosses say the films, each a few minutes long, hark back to the days of company founder Walt Disney.
Mickey’s new cartoons have been hand-drawn in 2D in homage to Walt and his animators from the 1920s.
The world’s most famous mouse, who made his debut 85 years ago in animated film Steamboat Willie, will appear in modern-day settings in the new episodes and will team up with old favourites including Donald Duck.
Disney chief executive Bob Iger said the shorts will feature Mickey’s “impish” and “innocent” qualities.
Despite his enduring appeal, Mickey has all but disappeared in recent years, and has only starred in three films since 1980.
