Midfielder Jack Wilshere will almost certainly miss the Gunners' attempts to overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit after taking an ankle knock in the Spurs game eight days ago, while Lukas Podolski and Bacary Sagna are definitely out.

Wilshere, 21, was given a few days' off after the north London derby and jetted to Dubai to try to heal up and recharge his batteries, but it looks as if his best hope will be to face Swansea on Saturday.

Forward Podolski has an ankle injury, while right-back Sagna is out of both the trip to Germany and the Swansea game because his knee problem has not cleared up.

England international Carl Jenkinson will play right-back in Munich, where Wenger will have to field a patched-up defence.

Left-back Kieran Gibbs hopes to be ready after a thigh injury, but a final decision will be taken on Tuesday before the team flies out. Thomas Vermaelen is on stand-by to play as an emergency left-back.

Fit-again Lukasz Fabianski is set to replace Wojciech Szczesny in goal.

Gunners boss Wenger is anxious to field the strongest team possible against Bayern to restore some much needed pride and is anxious to avoid accusations that he is resting players with the tie effectively over.

Wenger has been stressing to his players that he wants to regain momentum against Bayern Munich even though finishing in the top four is now a more realistic priority.

That means it will be the strongest line-up possible but the new injuries are a hammer blow even though Bayern have their own problems with Franck Ribery out, Arjen Robben doubtful and Bastian Schweinsteiger and defender Jerome Boateng both banned.

With his knee problem a concern, France international Sagna is likely to move on this summer and there is interest from Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the Middle East.

The Gunners have been scouting Feyenoord's Daryl Janmaat as a replacement, although Jenkinson, 20, will be hoping to impress in the next few games.
