A man caught with human parts along Liasu Road, Egbe-Ikotun, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria
has been charged to court.
Kunle Olaide, 23, was charged before Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for an unlawful possession of assorted human parts.
P.M.NEWS had earlier reported on 15 February that the police at Ikotun division arrested the suspect with fresh assorted human parts wrapped in nylon and stashed in a sack in Egbe-Ikotun area of Lagos.
Among the human parts recovered from him were chest, breasts, private parts, tongue and ears.
The matter was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
P.M.NEWS gathered that it was during interrogation that the suspect made a confessional statement that he knew that he was in possession of human parts.
The suspect reportedly confessed that the human parts were given to him by his boss, Niyi Salako, who told him to give them to a customer, who buys them for ritual purposes.
Olaide claimed that he was only fronting for his boss, a shepherd of an Aladura church at Egbe-Ikotun area, who fled immediately he learnt that the suspect has been arrested.
He said he did not know where the customer lives as the business was done in secrecy.
The suspect revealed that it was not the first time he sold human parts. But he added that he did not know the victims or participate in their murder.
Olaide said he was only complying with his boss’s directives.
He reportedly said he knew that his boss sell human parts to people, who need them for ritual or other purposes.
He said his boss does not disclose to him any information about those who patronise them or how he gets the human parts. And he does not ask questions from him about their customers.
He said their customers, who already know him, always wait for him on a roadside in their car and would immediately speed off after collecting the human parts from him.
He said his boss pays him between N5,000 to N10,000 for any transaction.
Olaide said he regretted  getting involved in the illicit business, lamenting that his boss has abandoned him to his fate.
He pleaded not guilty when he was charged before the court and the presiding magistrate, Mrs Bola Folami-William, granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with one surety.
The court also ruled that the surety must be a landowner in the state and has paid tax for three years to the state government.
The suspect was, however, remanded in prison custody at Ikoyi, pending when he will fulfill his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 11 April 2013.
