Pepsi has redesigned the shape of its 16-ounce and 20-ounce plastic bottles for the first time in
16 years. Move the arrows on the slider above back and forth to see the a before and after comparison.
The slider isn't meant to be a 1:1 comparison of the actual bottle sizes, but it gives you an idea of the leaner look Pepsi is going for. The snazzy new shape sure has a refreshing plastic swirl to it, huh? It's more lively than the dated look from 1997. But while it's certainly a departure, it's also a tribute to some of the earliest glass Pepsi packages, which featured a similar swirl:
The new look is available in 16 and 20 oz plastic bottles at the moment in Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max and Pepsi Next varieties; a special 12 oz glass swirl bottle will be in select stores, but only for full-calorie Pepsi. Eventually, though, the look is going to find itself spread across all of Pepsi's brands. But don't let that slimmer-looking profile trick your brain. The stuff inside it is still no good for you.
AdAge reports that the new bottles will begin shipping in April but it could take until the end of the year for the nationwide turnover to be complete. [AdAge via The Verge]
