Barry Steenkamp wants to meet the man accused of his daughter's murder "for closure" but does
not know what he will say
Reeva Steenkamp’s father wants to meet Oscar Pistorius face to face to help him come to terms with losing his daughter, he said last night.
Barry Steenkamp, 69, does not know what he will say to Pistorius, 26, who is accused of Reeva’s murder, but said: “I just feel it’s necessary. For closure.”
But mum June, 66, says she never wants to see the Paralympic gold medalist again - insisting he can give her no answers she wants to hear.
A month on since her daughter was shot dead, June said: “I don’t want anything from him. What could he say to me?
"My daughter is gone and nothing can change that. I don’t ever want to see him.”
Barry revealed that all they had heard from the Blade Runner was flowers with a card that read “from the office of Oscar Pistorius”.
Barry also said he hung up on Oscar’s uncle Arnold - who is housing him while he is on bail - when he phoned them.
In an interview with South African magazine ‘You’, the Steenkamps revealed that after illness forced Barry to quit working, Reeva became the family’s breadwinner.
On her last conversation with her mum, the day before she was killed, model Reeva said she had just arrived at Oscars.
She told June she had put money in their account so they could reconnect their TV service so they could watch that weekend.
They are worried that they could now lose their three-bed home in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

June said Reeva was “really in love with Oscar”, who had dated for three months before he shot her in his bathroom.
Most of what they know about the case that has gripped the world has come through the media, the Steenkamps said, but as their daughter lay in the crematorium, June went looking for her own answers.
Peaking under the hood that covered Reeva’s head, she saw the bullet hole in her daughter’s skull.
When she came to talk about it, a tearful Barry stopped her from elaborating.
They now plan to scatter their daughter’s ashes in the sea at Bloubergstrand - in the same place as her grandfather’s ashes were scattered - with Table Mountain in the background.
Their biggest regret is that Reeva will never have a wedding day and children.
June said: “She was a lovely, generous person. She was terribly busy. She led a very exciting life and tried to do everything.
“It’s almost as if she knew she only had a little time in which to get everything done.
“This is forever. It’s the end.”
