Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped some points in April’s ranking due to their draw against Kenya in Calabar

The Super Eagles dropped one spot from 30th to 31st in April’s ranking of the world’s senior national football teams released by Fifa.

The Super Eagles were unable to consolidate on their 30th spot from March after emerging champions at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Their 1-1 draw against the Harambee Stars of Kenya in a 2014 World Cup qualifying match in Calabar meant that they dropped 18 points and finished with 757 points from last month’s 775.

Still, Nigeria remain in fourth place among the African teams with Cote D’Ivoire retaining their top spot after they moved one step up to 12th position globally. Ghana and Mali are in second and third spots in Africa but they dropped two spots each to 22nd and 26th globally.

The other teams in Africa’s top ten are Algeria, Tunisia, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.

Globally, the top three did not change with Spain, Germany and Argentina maintaining their positions as the top football teams. Croatia have moved up into fourth position while Portugal occupy the fifth spot.

The Fifa ranking is a monthly list released by the football governing body to show the progress or otherwise of all national teams.
