NORTH Korea could face further United Nations (UN) sanctions if they launch another missile or
nuclear test, according to G8 ministers speaking today. The foreign ministers condemned in the 'strongest terms' Kim Jong Un's actions at a London summit and said it threatened international security.

The G8 ministers urged Pyongyang to abandon its existing nuclear programs and engage in talks to avoid isolating itself from the rest of the world.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague said: "Clearly what we are talking about is in the field of sanctions.

"We would discuss such measures at the UN Security Council."

The remarks came hours after North Korea claimed they had 'powerful striking means' on standby and that they were preparing to test a missile.

A communique from the G8 nations said North Korea were not only risking peace in the Korean Peninsula but also threatening international peace.

Last December the country launched a long-range missile while in February they conducted an underground nuclear test.

He said: "This war rhetoric is not in any way acceptable and the G-8 has a united position on this."

Officials in Washington and Seoul have revealed North Korea appear to be preparing to test fire a medium range Musudan missile.

They believe it could be capable of reaching Japan and the US territory of Guam in the Pacific Ocean.Mr Hague said the G8 ministers did not want to further exacerbate tensions in the region.

He said: "We are conducting ourselves in such a way as not to respond to paranoid rhetoric in a way that feeds that rhetoric."

However, US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel warned that North Korea were "skating very close to a dangerous line".
