Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is to chair the 2nd Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa scheduled to take place on April 20 and 21 at Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
The News Agency of Nigeria in Addis Ababa reports that the forum is a platform for African leaders, key stakeholders, and pro-active strategists.
They will collaborate and engage in exploring African-led solutions to its current security challenges.
A statement issued by the Forum’s Media and Communication Directorate said no fewer than seven African Presidents are expected to participate in the programme.
The programme seeks to address issues of transnational organised criminal activities currently posing threat to African governance and security
The theme for this year’s Forum is “Security and Organised Crime in Africa”.
“The Forum is setting a new standard when it comes to discussing pressing peace and security issues that affect the African continent,“ the statement said.
The names of the other Heads of State and Governments scheduled to take part at the forum were not revealed in the statement.
It, however, said that the crises in Mali, Congo DR, Central Africa Republic, and Western Sahara, Guinea Bissau “narco-state”, the scandal of trafficking of human persons in north-east Africa, and piracy in the Indian Ocean will form part of the forum’s agenda.
“Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the forum’s Chief Executive, Professor Andreas Eshete will hold a pre-event news conference on April 19 in Addis Ababa ahead of the meeting.
