Rare, German-tuned Bugatti goes on sale

A GERMAN-TUNED version of one of the world's most exclusive classic Bugatti sports cars is being offered for sale in Britain for the equivalent of $A730,000 dollars.

Only 31 of the scissor-doored Bugatti EB 110 were built. Two were modified by German tuner Brabus, one of them the silver Super Sport on sale by specialist car dealer Oakfields, reports Germany Auto, Motor und Sport magazine.
Unusually for Bottrop-based tuning house Brabus, which specialises in chip-tuning the production engines of fast cars to extract even more horsepower, the motor of the Bugatti was considered sufficient for rapid forward motion.
Brabus made no changes to the Bugatti's multi-turbocharged 3.5 litre V12 engine which turns out 611 horsepower and boasts stump-pulling torque of 650 newton metres. The mid-mounted 3.5L V12 features dual overhead camshafts and quadruple turbochargers.
This was all coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox with drive to all four wheels.
Inside, the car features a custom interior with blue leather seats and blue and black leather dash.
The fluted four round exhaust pipe ends are the only outward sign that the car was modified in the Brabus workshops.
The EB110 model in GT form was introduced in September 1991, 110 years after the birthday of the marque's founder, Ettore Bugatti. The body was styled by Bertone.
Production of the EB110 ended in 1995 when the company went bankrupt. The name was later bought by Volkswagen.
Oakfields said the British-owned silver car was originally registered in Germany in 1993.
After its Brabus makeover, the car is understood to have had a collector owner who took the car to Florida, then to Switzerland before bringing it to Britain in 2009 and selling it.
The Bugatti EB 110 SS Brabus has covered only 12,000 kilometres since new.
Formula One racing driver Michael Schumacher is among the rich and famous who have owned a Bugatti EB 110 SS. His bright yellow example was sold in 2010 for 600,000 euros ($A781,352) with just 4,627 kilometres on the clock.
