An activist, Mr Moses Ibeh, on Saturday commended the Federal Government for its intervention to end the crisis in Mali.
Nigeria joined other countries, including France, Chad, Niger, UK and the U.S., to deploy troops to end the insurgency in Mali.
He said that Nigeria as the giant of Africa should continue to play a fatherly role in the continent to ensure peace, unity and stability in the continent.
“Jonathan's decision to send troops to restore peace in warring Mali is highly commendable.
“Nigeria as the giant of Africa should do her best to continue ensuring peace and unity in the region,” he said.
He said that the action of the president would increase the respect of the international community for the country in its determination to maintain peace and ensure good neighbourliness.
“The international community expects much from Nigeria as the most popular nation in the continent to see that democracy thrives in all countries of Africa.
“Other countries in Africa should join Nigeria in restoring sanity in Mali,” he said.
The activist urged the Nigerian troops sent to Mali to exhibit high sense of professionalism and patriotism, which the country’s troops had earned in peace-keeping missions.
“Nigerian troops have been ranked among the best in peace-keeping missions in the world.
“I am convinced that the troops will once again display military professionalism which the country is known for in the past.
“Government should ensure that the troops are provided with everything that will make them excel to enable them restore peace and sanity in Mali in record time,’' he said.
