A suicide bomber is reported to have detonated his explosives outside the Somali prime minister's offices in Mogadishu, killing at least one person.
One army official told the AFP news agency that as many as six people have died, with several wounded.
Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon was in his office at the time but was unharmed, AFP reports.
This is reported to be the first such attack since Mr Shirdon took office last October.
A former businessman, he was nominated for the post by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who became president in September in elections deemed the first fair such vote in Mogadishu for 42 years.
The new government is trying to rebuild the country after 20 years of conflict.
One of its biggest challenges is the al-Qaeda-aligned Islamist group, al-Shabab, which still controls large areas of rural southern and central Somalia.
