A 29-year-old tenant, Bose Olamikan, on Wednesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates' court in Lagos, charged with pouring hot soup on her landlord and his wife.
Olamikan, who lives at No. 22, Owode St., Langbasa in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos, is standing trial on a one-count charge of assault.
Police prosecutor Raphael Donny told the court that the defendant committed the offence at her residence on Jan. 27 at about 2.20 p.m.
``The defendant, who had not paid her house rent for a year, got angry when the landlord gave her a two-week notice to pay her debt.
``The pronouncement by the landlord, Mr Sule Oladoja, irked Olamikan, who poured the hot pot of soup on him, and his wife, Afusat Rasaki.
``This resulted in the couple sustaining serious injuries on their faces and some other parts of their bodies," Donny said.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 243 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011, but the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mulikat Ali-Balogun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to March 5 for mention.
