A Confederation of African Football source informed Complete Sports on Sunday that Grisha Ghead has been taken off the rest of the tournament following a protest from Nigeria after the Egyptian's handling of the high-profile game.
Ghead awarded Zambia a controversial late penalty after Ogenyi Onazi tangled with Emmanuel Mayuka just outside the box.
Replays showed that there was no foul committed but Kennedy Mweene scored the penalty to earn the champions a draw.
The source added that Nigerian sports minister Bolaji Abdullaji met with CAF officials on Sunday and the decision to expel Ghead was taken.
