FIFA approves goal line technology for 2014 world cup

After so much hue and cry by stakeholders, world governing football body,FIFA,have confirmed that
goal- line technology, will come into effect, first at the Confederations Cup in June and also at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
FIFA had previously ducked at the idea of a goal-line technology, stating that they would exhaust all available options.
But after it was used at last year’s FIFA World Club Cup in Japan, the football body have decided to implement the scheme,to forestall controversies of ‘whether the ball actually crossed the line or not.’
‘After a successful implementation of Goal-Line Technology (GLT) at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December 2012, FIFA has decided to use GLT at the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 and 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil,” FIFA said in a statement.
‘The aim is to use GLT in order to support the match officials and to install a system in all stadia, pending the successful installation, and pre-match referee tests.
‘With different technologies on the market, FIFA has launched a tender today, setting out the technical requirements for the two forthcoming competitions in Brazil.’
Over the years, some teams have fallen victims of such calls, where the referee fails to call for a goal, when the ball actually crossed the line.
The new technology will aid the referees to adequately call when the ball fully crosses the line.
