The tribunal set up by Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola to probe the banger explosions at Jankara Market in December 2012, will begin sitting on April 4.
Fashola had on February 18 set up the tribunal to look into the immediate causes of the explosions.
During the inferno, one life was lost while 10 buildings and 11 vehicles were razed.
Chairman of the Tribunal, retired Justice Sunday Ishola said on Monday that the members would begin inaugural sitting on April 4 and public hearing on April 8 at the Lagos City Hall.
Ishola, who spoke during the visit to the Lagos Island Local Government Area, assured Lagosians that the tribunal would do a good job.
He added that 10 memoranda had been submitted to the tribunal by residents of the area and called for more to be submitted before the deadline.
Ishola, however, said the tribunal would not extend the submission of memoranda which closes on Tuesday (today).
“We have received 10 memoranda so far. The date of submission will close on April 26 and we will not extend it because on April 4, we will be having our inaugural sitting and public hearing on April 8,” he said.
Chairman, Lagos Island LG, Eshinlokun Sanni, pledged the support of the council as the tribunal’s sitting would be beneficial to the residents of the council.
He added that that was not the first time such incident had occurred in the area and hoped that a lasting solution to the problem would be arrived at.
