The government said in a statement that the earlier announcement made on the ban by Mr Ishola Adeyemi, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Isa Yuguda, was done in error.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Mr Abdu Ilelah, said in the statement that alternative security measures would be adopted by security agencies to secure lives and property across the state.
The government explained in the statement titled 'Re-restriction on Carrying of Passengers by Operators of Motor Cycles in Bauchi Metropolis' that the earlier statement issued by Adeyemi was "actually released in error."
"Based on the existing security situation in the state, the decision conveyed in the said press release is hereby reviewed; government is therefore, calling on the general public to disregard the ban order.
"Security agencies have been requested to immediately stop the enforcement of the said ban order. Government appeals to members of the public to remain calm and go about their legitimate businesses.
"Alternative measures have been put in place to combat criminality in the state and to ensure the prevalence of peace and order," the statement added.
NAN recalls that Adeyemi had, on Wednesday, stated: "Disturbed by the rate of criminality in the state, which in some instances had led to loss of lives, Bauchi State Government has placed a restriction order on the operation of motorcycles in the state.
"Most of the reported criminal activities that occurred in Bauchi metropolis and other parts of the state were committed by persons riding on motorcycles.
"Consequently, government wishes to place restriction on the operation of motorcycles in Bauchi metropolis. Operators of private and commercial motorcycles in Bauchi metropolis are hereby banned from carrying passengers from 6p.m to 6a.m.'' (NAN)
