Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police
and state police commands to beef up security around worship centres, shopping malls and other public places during the Easter celebrations.
Abubakar ordered them to take all necessary measures to protect worshippers, travelers, picnickers and all citizens across the country before, during and after Easter.
In a statement by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in Abuja on Thursday, the IG asked the AIGs and police commissioners in the states to personally ensure that all key and vulnerable points within their jurisdictions, including places of worship, recreation centres, motor parks, highways, financial institutions and all places of public resort are adequately and effectively protected.
He restated his resolve to reposition the Force for greater efficiency, including bargaining for better welfare package and more conducive working conditions for the personnel.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps has trained 365 personnel on the management of accident victims and other rescue procedures to improve the quality of the corps service delivery to the public.
Participants at the training were also educated on ethics and values, public courtesy, personal hygiene and communication skills that would make them more effective.
Zonal Commander, Zone RM7, FCT and Niger State, Mr. Augustine Aipoh, said that the programme was meant to improve the capacity of Road Marshall Assistants who were the first in contact with members of the public.
Aipoh explained that the participants were taught how to manage accident victims, among other things, noting that the training workshop would empower the Road M0arshall Assistants to be more effective and professional in their dealings with motorists.
