An Igbo group, National Union of True Igbo Movement, has described as “insensitive and callous”
the delayed visit of prominent Igbo leaders to the scene of last week’s bombing in Kano where many Igbos were killed.
NUTIM said in Owerri, Imo State, on Thursday that the action was condemnable, saying it amounted to “an act of cowardice and gross abdication of leadership for the Igbo leaders to have demanded the fortification of security before visiting Kano to assess how many Igbos were bombed out of existence in a luxury park.”
Leaders of the Igbo pan group, Ohanaeze, led by its president, Chief Gary Igariwey; former PDP National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu; and former Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife’ were quoted as saying recently that their planned visit to Kano was postponed till Wednesday “for maximum security.”
However, NUTIM National President, Dr. Sam Nwankwo, described their comments as “regrettable and unpardonable and an act of betrayal and selfishness.”
