Kenya election: Presidential vote goes to the wire

Kenya’s presidential race tightened today with frontrunner Uhuru Kenyatta gaining just under half
of the votes, raising the prospect of a tense run-off against his main rival prime minister Raila Odinga, 68.
Mr Kenyatta, 51, the deputy prime minister, is due to go on trial at The Hague on charges of crimes against humanity linked to the bloodshed that followed the last election in 2007. The violence hurt Kenya’s reputation as a stable democracy. Mr Kenyatta needs more than half of the vote for a first-round victory.
