Makurdi, the Benue capital, on Thursday recorded its first rainfall for 2013. The rain, which was preceded by heavy winds, lasted for about an hour.
It started at about 11.40 p.m. on Wednesday and ended at about 12.44 a.m. on Thursday March 28.
NAN reports that unlike the previous first rains, which destroyed property, the rain did not destroy any thing. NAN also reports that this year’s rain arrived a bit late compared to that of 2012, which began early March.
The rain signified the commencement of the 2013 cropping season for Makurdi farmers. Most farmers were seen heading to their respective farms to commence clearing of farmlands. The rains also brought respite to Makurdi residents as the usually hot season gave way to a more clement weather. (NAN)
