The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh on Wednesday in Ilorin assured Nigerians that the military will remain committed to the entrenchment of democratic values in the country.
He described the military as a strong arm of democracy.
He spoke during a courtesy visit to Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, according to a statement by Ahmed’s Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba.
The Chief of Air Staff said the Airforce, and indeed the Nigerian military, were dependable allies in protecting and sustaining the country’s hard earned democracy. He stated that the Airforce was prepared to make itself available towards defending democracy by ensuring law and order in the country.
Ahmed said Nigeria was passing through unusual times in terms of national security. He stated that proactive attention needed to be given to security challenges in the country.
“These are unusual times as we are faced with unusual crisis that we have never faced since the end of the civil war,” Ahmed said.
He lamented that crisis hindered investment drive and economic development of any society.
He called on all Nigerians to strive harder for the promotion of national security.
Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Ibadan, Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Jibrin, on Wednesday reiterated the commitment of men of the Nigerian Army to defend the country’s unity and its nascent democracy.
The GOC, who was in Benin, Edo State, as part of a tour of formations under his division, praised the state Governor, Adams Oshiomole, during a courtesy visit to the Government House.
He thanked the governor for his administration’s support for officers and men of the Nigerian Army deployed in the state.
He said, “I will like to use this opportunity to reiterate the commitment of the division to deploy men in aid of civil authorities whenver the need arises, because it is part of our constitutional responsibility.
“I also like to reiterate the loyalty of the military to civil authority in complete surbordination and submission to the dictates of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
