New Solution enables Smartphone to Withdraw Cash at ATMs

A new solution is available that will enable bank customers to withdraw cash from ATMs
(cashpoints) in the future by using a smartphone instead of a bank card. That is using smartphone instead of bank card.
To implement this, Wincor Nixdorf has enhanced the PC/E Mobile Cash app that it launched for Android and iOS last October.
For the iPhone, Wincor Nixdorf is the first ATM vendor to integrate this service in Apple Passbook using Apple passes.
For Android users, a comparable function has been integrated directly in the Wincor Nixdorf app.
Bank customers use the app on the smartphone to prepare their withdrawal and then receive a QR code for the transaction.
The QR code, which is stored either in Apple Passbook or Wincor Nixdorf’s PC/E Mobile Cash app, is read in at the ATM, replacing authentication via bank card.
A transaction PIN can also be entered as an additional security feature.
As far as the bank is concerned, only a few extensions are needed. Depending on the current configuration, it may be necessary to add a barcode scanner to the ATMs to read the QR code.
In addition, client software must be installed on the machines to support this function. PC/E Transaction Safe, a server component that is easy to integrate in existing software environments, handles communication with the bank’s background systems.
“Consumers are increasingly demanding innovative end user concepts – not just in payment processes with mobile wallets. Smartphones will also play a key role in interaction with cash machines in the future,” said Stefan Wahle, vice president of Software Solutions at Wincor Nixdorf.
The new solution concept is available worldwide with immediate effect for piloting by financial institutions.
If required, NFC can also be supported instead of the barcode in the Android app.
