The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has launched the state’s residency card Tuesday in Akure the state Capital.
The Card known as ‘Kaadi Igbe Ayo’ which means ‘residence of joy’ was introduced at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Square. The Governor noted that the card was introduced to deepen the welfare benefit to the residents and also facilitate the sustainability of government infrastructure.
The governor decried the rumor that the card had cost the state billions of Naira, saying only N900 million was spent on the project.
The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku commended the initiative saying Governor Mimiko is solidifying on the kind of politics rooted in social democracy that emphasizes human capital development, as laid down by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The residency card is a social security card initiative to ensure strategic planning and efficient record keeping, monitoring of human resources in the public sector, qualitative service delivery in key sectors such as health, education, transportation and agriculture.
According to the project’s coordinator, Mr. Tunde Yadeka who addressed journalists on Sunday, the card would serve as an interface in all transactions between the government and residents; allowing all residents equal access to government’s social and welfare services and allow government at every point to monitor the distribution of such services even to the remotest parts of the state.
