Spanish side Real Betis are reportedly ready to fine Super Eagles midfielder, Nosa Igiebor, N4.1m (€20,000) as punishment for returning late from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian international only returned to Spain on March 8, almost a month after winning the African competition with the Eagles.
Igiebor was delayed in Lagos by Spanish embassy officials, who refused to renew his work permit over documentation issues.
But Betis officials are inisisting that Igiebor is “claiming visa issues”, and opened a disciplinary case against him.
The midfielders’ representatives reportedly consulted legal services, who told them Betis were unlikely to hit him with a fine of more than 30 per cent of his €25,000 monthly salary.
However, according to reports on Friday, the club have determined to take a maximum possible fine of 75 per cent of his wages for the month’s absence, equating to N4.1m (€20,000), in light of a charge of serious misconduct.
Betis are understood to be ready to make official, any decision at the start of next week.
The 22-year-old, who has 10 appearances to his name in his first season in La Liga, has been training regularly with the club since his return.
