The army headquarters has unveiled a new information processing system in Abuja designed by the Nigerian Army Transformation and Innovation Centre (ATIC).
The system will accept emergency alert messages in form of short message service (SMS) and emails from the public and process it for immediate action.
The chief of ATIC, Major General Ibrahim Sani said at a media briefing that the Nigerian Army Information and Processing System (NAIPS) “will be operated on very strict confidentiality of its sources of information and will enable the army and other security agencies respond immediately to distress and emergency calls for help from anywhere within Nigeria.”
He said the system will reduce the response time between reporting and decision making to 15 minutes.
Distressed persons are expected to forward information to any of the three e-mail addresses namely; nigerianarmytips@yahoo.com, nigerianarmytips@gmail.com and nigerianarmytips@hotmail.com while sms can be sent to 08160030300, 07053333123, and 08181555888.
Also, people sending information are advised to describe the spot of action or attack, address, estimate number of actors and the equipment they are carrying as well as the direction of fleeing vehicles.
The system will also process the report of unprofessional conduct of security agents. “In case of any unprofessional conduct by our security personnel please send a very honest report of the incident, names of personnel and service to which they belong,” he said.
The system was yesterday handed over to the Director of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Letam Wiwa.
