The University of Nigeria is to confer honorary doctorate degrees on several eminent Nigerians, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, at its 42nd convocation on Saturday.
Also to be honoured are are the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega; former Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola; and the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti.
This much was disclosed by UNN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bartholomew Okolo, on Monday, at a press briefing in Enugu.
Prof. Okolo explained that the awardees were being recognised as a result of their “remarkable contributions to the development of our country.”
The convocation lecture entitled ‘The wealth and poverty of a nation: who shall restore the dignity of Nigeria’, will be delivered by former minister, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili.
At the occasion, 116 persons will earn First Class Honours, while another 195 will receive the institution’s doctorate degrees on the occasion.
