The Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka did not resign as being speculated in some quarters, DailyPost can authoritatively report.
Some media houses had reported that the second-in-command to Dr. Kayode Fayemi, resigned her appointment due to health reasons.
But in a chat with DailyPost on Monday, a source close to Ekiti state Governor, debunked the speculations.
The source told our reporter that “This is but a rumour. She went on vacation on 26th Dec and resumed this morning.” adding that “the deputy governor is in her office working right now.”
He described the rumour as wishful thinking of the mongers.
However, Olayinka is reported to have been ill, which has not been made public.
A source confided in DailyPost reporter that the former UBA Head of Corporate Communications has been battling with the condition for a while, although not life threatening.
The source added that “She (Mrs. Olayinka) is just back from a month treatment, it is true she’s got an ailment.”
DailyPost investigations reveals that the Deputy Governor will complete her tenure, but may be replaced in the next election.
An insider said Senator Femi Ojudu, 51, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial district, is the likely replacement.
In the April 2011 senatorial election, the renowned journalist who contested on the Action Congress of Nigeria platform, defeated Labour Party candidate and former State Governor Ayo Fyose and Kayode Alufa of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, to clinch victory.
The next governorship election in the state is scheduled to hold later this year.
Only last week, ACN leaders in the state, endorsed Dr. Kayode Fayemi for another term of four years.
The present administration came on board over three years ago, after a Court of Appeal nullified the election of the former state Governor and current PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West), Segun Oni.
