The Lagos State Government says it has lifted the order restricting movement during the upcoming monthly sanitation exercise.
The Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, stated this during an interactive session with journalists, in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said the decision was taken in order to give people the opportunity to experience a hitch-free Easter celebration.
“The state government has lifted the order restricting vehicular movement of people during the March monthly environmental sanitation exercise in order to allow free movement of persons who may wish to travel as well as allow for hitch-free celebration of Easter,” Bello said.
He however urged Lagosians to still observe the monthly exercise by cleaning up their homes and immediate environment.
Bello said Lagosians should rise up and take the sanitisation of their environment very seriously as the rainy season is fast approaching.
“We cannot but encourage cleanliness in all aspects of our physical and spiritual life, having just completed the 40 days of the Christian fasting. I therefore enjoin all and sundry to ensure that the festival is celebrated in the cleanliest environment possible,” he said.
The commissioner urged Lagosians to desist from throwing waste into canals and drainages as the consequences of massive flooding experienced last year in parts of nation was enough warning.
He said Lagosians should celebrate in moderation and be conscious of the environment “as we need to respect our environment, so as not to incure the wrath of nature.”
