The National Orientation Agency (NOA) is to donate Nigerian flags to the National Sports Commission (NSC) for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
The Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri who gave the hint when he spoke to news men said it had become a sustained tradition of the Agency to support our contingent with what he referred to as “national identity spirit”, just as he encouraged the teeming Super Eagles’ supporters to show their patriotism by also acquiring Nigerian national flags to distinguish Nigerian supporters during matches.
“We are identified as a people by our national symbols of which the national flag is one of them and from which we draw inspiration of togetherness. We at NOA are supporting this worthy cause by donating flags to our contingent and officials of NSC”, he said.
While calling on Nigerians residing in South Africa to come out en-masse to cheer up the Super Eagles’ players, Mr. Omeri asked them to identify themselves with our national flag by buying it from stands and sales outlets across South Africa.
He said, “Arrangement has been concluded with Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria with a view to making Nigerian flags available across stands and outlets where our supporters can buy”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Omeri advised supporters to exhibit high level of discipline as he told them to obey rules and regulations in and around the stadia of the host nation.
This year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2013) which will be hosted in South Africa from 19thJanuary, 2013. The NOA has in the past supported national sports contingent at the Olympics and other sports tournaments with flags.
