The Peoples Democratic Party PDP is set to hold election to choose the Chairman Board of Trustees BoT for the party today.
Contenders for the position are: Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Tony Anenih, former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, two former national Presidents of the PDP, Senator Ahmadu Ali and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and Shuaibu Oyedokun.
The new BoT Chairman was thought to emerge by a consensus as against an election but non of the contenders agreed to step down for another. The party at its December meeting failed to agree on a consensus candidate and had thus settled for the process of election which had been fixed for today.
Speaking, the election board secretary, Senator Walid Jibrin said, whoever emerges BoT chairman today would serve a single term of five years in accordance with the party’s constitution and must be sound, acceptable and credible with proven integrity and a clear vision for the party’s goals.
The position became vacant following the resignation of Chief Obasanjo in 2012.
