Speaking at en event organised by the Special Task Force in Plateau state, Governor Jonah Jang has said that only the Federal Government could implement the reports of commissions of inquiry into the crises in Jos.
Jang claimed that his government had submitted all the reports to the Federal Government for implementation a long time ago, and added that his hands were tied over the release of the reports.
“We have sent all the reports to the Federal Government for over a year now, which has the power to implement them as such, but my hands are tied.
“As a government, we also desire to see that these reports are released and implemented.
“People have been calling for the release and implementation of the reports of the various judicial commissions of inquiry but the power of such does not rest with my government,” he said.
Governor Jang expressed hope that implementing the reports would assist in bringing peace back to the state. He stressed the need for the 1999 Constitution to empower the state government to implement reports of commissions of inquiry for quick resolution of problems facing the people.
Speaking at the same event, Prof. Isawa Elaigwu, the President of Institute of Governance and Social Research, distinguished between maintenance of law and order and peace.
“Peace is derived from the heart of the people while maintenance of law and order is being enforced by some people.
“Peace comes from the healing of the heart from a hurt done to it and which takes time; sometimes even 10 years to heal,” he said. He called on all aggrieved people to embrace peace for the progress of the society.
