Willow Smith is more a father figure in her life than her actual father, Will Smith.
In a recent interview with the Men in Black 3 actor, he revealed that his 12-year-old daughter is taking charge of her life—namely pulling out of big budget productions.
Willow, he said, has decided not to appear in the highly anticipated re-envisioned musical Annie, the conversation that the actor had with reporters at "Real Talk with Sister Souljah and Will Smith” at Philadelphia’s Temple University.
“Willow was supposed to be doing Annie,” Will said. “We got Jay-Z to do the movie [and] got the studio to come in. [But] Willow had such a difficult time on tour with ‘Whip my Hair.”’
On her decision to bail out of the family tradition of appearing on screen, at least for now, Will added:
“She said, ‘You know Daddy, I don’t think so.' ... I said, ‘Baby, hold up! I said no, no, no. Listen, you’ll be in New York with all of your friends and Beyonce will be there. You will be singing and dancing.’ And she looked at me and said, ‘Daddy, I have a better idea, how about I just be 12.’”
After recovering from the shock of the mature moment, Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett, couldn’t help admit that she had a point.
He said, “I’m really learning through Willow the necessity that we have to snap ourselves back and refocus on the emotional needs of the people that we love.”
An impressive moment for a pre-teen. To Willow, we say: Well done grasshopper.
