You won't get a warm welcome at this hotel, but then that's pretty much to be expected considering everything, including the reception, the bar and even the beds is made entirely out of ice.
The breathtaking Icehotel in JukkasjÀrvi, northern Sweden, is an ongoing art-project covering 59,200 sq. ft and built out of 2,000 tons of river ice and 3,000 tons of 'snice' a combination of ice and snow used to stop the structure from collapsing.
Artists from around the world flock to the Icehotel every winter to add their unique touch and perhaps even create a room or a sculpture to add to the everchanging surroundings.
Guests are advised to pack multiple pairs of thermals as they will be sleeping on ice mattresses covered with reindeer skins. Most chose to sleep one night 'on ice' followed by a few nights on a traditional bed at the regular accommodation nearby.
They can get a drink at the Ice Bar or even tie the knot at the ice chapel. Mornings usually involve a steaming cup of lingonberry juice followed by a hot sauna to get ready for the day.
Activities include snowmobile or bus tours to see the stunning Northern Lights, dog-sledding and reindeer-sledding excursions, horseback riding and of course ice sculpting.
