63 staff of the Adekunle Ajasin University were sacked.
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ondo State, has expressed shock over the reported sack of 63 workers of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Rotimi Agbede, the party sais that it is ironic that this is coming barely two months after the victory of the Labour Party at the poll.
“It is ironic that this is coming barely two months after the purported victory of the Labour Party, LP, at the last governorship poll in the state and one cannot but marvel about this unique way of saying thank you to the people of the State by relieving them of their means of livelihood.
“That this termination of appointment was carried out at this particular period when every family is looking up to a joyous celebration in this yuletide season aptly manifested the kind of character ruling us in the State who has no passion and human feeling for the citizenry,” the ACN said.
The opposition party implored all well meaning citizens of the state to prevail on the management of the institution to have a rethink over the sack of the workers.
It also urged the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the people of Ondo State to rally support for the affected workers.
“It is not surprising that Governor Olusegun Mimiko, his brother, Professor Mimiko and Dan Nwanyanwu, the Chairman of AAUA Council are going cruel.
“Having failed in his bid to secure the foreign loan which was stopped by the National Assembly, the governor reasoned that his means of recouping the money spent during the election hence his resolve to downsize the workforce starting with AAUA headed by his immediate younger brother,” the party alleged.
The management of the institution had last week sacked 63 workers for their involvement in some protests before the governorship election.
