Mrs. Oluwakemi Akinlola went to court for a divorce because her husband, Mr. Ahmed Akinlola, was always beating her at the slightest provocation.
When the case came up in court on January 22, 2013, Mrs.Akinlola, said they got married in March 2012 and have a baby girl, Favour, who is two months old. Since they got married, the lady has not had peace as they always quarrel with each other, leading to the husband beating her up.
The beatings, she said had gone worse, such that she could not bear it anymore and consequently moved out of the house to live alone.
She urged the court to grant her the divorce request and also give her custody of their baby.
When Justice V.W Ghahemba asked Mr. Akinlola his opinion, he told the court that he did not have any legal representation and that he could speak for himself.
He said that the allegation of battery against him was not true. “I never beat her one day but since she no longer wants to live with me, it is better she go because you cannot force a woman to stay with you. But I want the court to grant me permission to see my baby because she is the most important person to me.”
