Tension Mars Eid-el Maulud as 20 Feared Killed in Plateau

No fewer than 20 persons are feared killed in a fresh onslaught on the Plateau resulting in a serious tension that nearly marred the Eid-el Maulud celebration in the state Thursday.

This time, the clash was not between Fulani herdsmen and the Berom, as witnessed in the past, but between Fulani and the native Taroh community in Wadata, a rural settlement in Wase, Local Government Area in the southern part of the state.
A source from the community said the clash took place in the early hours of Thursday following the discovery of a decomposing corpse of a young man who had earlier been declared missing in a nearly bush.
This, according to the source resulted in reprisal and counter-reprisal attacks during which 19 other persons were killed on the spot, and scores of houses torched.
