Elton John and partner David Furnish may have had a lavish party in 2005 when the two entered into a civil partnership, but according to David, they are planning wedding 2.0 as soon as gay marriage is legalized in California.
“Los Angeles is like a second home to us,” David tells Hollyscoop, “We have a civil partnership, but gay marriage has now been legalized in the UK.
When we go back to Britain, we will definitely renew our vows under the gay marriage act but to do it here in Los Angeles, which is a second home to us, we’d love to do it here too!”
And they won't stop with just a Cali wedding, David says, “Let’s renew those vows everywhere they become legal!”
Both David and Elton realize their celebrity standing and will renew their vows as many times as they can as a symbol of their solidarity with marriage equality.
“It is one of the pivotal defining issues of our time and this moment has arrived and even though we have our relationship legally recognized, people are fighting hard for this issue everyday and deservedly so,” he tells us, “If we can give it profile and support, we’ll continue to do that.”
Until we see that blowout vow renewal party, Elton is preoccupied with his annual hotly-anticipated Oscar party on Sunday.
The 21st annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards® Viewing Party will be sponsored by Chopard, Neuro, and Wells Fargo and every year attracts Hollywood’s hottest A-List talent like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Heidi Klum, and Elton’s good friends Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. The party begins with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner prepared by a celebrity chef and viewing of the 85th Academy Awards.
