to the Government of the Federation (SGF), over alleged violation of the federal character principles by the latter.Leadership Weekend learnt that the House Committee on Federal Character is at its wit’s end over alleged refusal of the SGF, Pius Anyim, to honour several invitations sent to him to appear before the panel and explain certain issues in respect of the implementation of the federal character provisions by his office as regards the headship of some federal agencies.
Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, who is also a member of the Federal Character panel, Hon. Mustapha Bala, claimed that Anyim has been using his office to undermine the North in favourof the South-East, where he hails from. Bala alleged that Anyim had edged out many northerners from the headship of several federal agencies by delaying to forward their tenure renewal letters to President Goodluck Jonathan.
The lawmakers urged President Jonathan to probe the SGF over the allegations. His words: “Currently, we have many DGs of northern origin, whose tenure renewal process is in limbo because the SGF had failed to act on them. We have Prof. NuhuYaqub, the executive secretary of TEFCON, his first tenure has elapsed, he is awaiting a second tenure, he was asked to hand over to the next senior officer.
There is Dr. Ahmed Moddibo of UBEC, whose first tenure ended and was asked to hand over.
