The commandant general of the Nigeria security and civil defence corps (NSCDC), Prof Ade
Abolurin yesterday made a startling revelation of how he recently turned down an offer of over N10m from a group which wanted to supply laptops to his organisation.
The NSCDC boss who also disclosed how he shunned a team of private developers who attempted to induce him financially to have him approve their proposal for a mass housing scheme for the corps boasted that he has never sought for nor collected bribe from anyone either in his years of professional practice or in a decade of public service.
He made this revelation while fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the NSCDC national staff cooperative summit, held in Abuja, where he charged his officers and men to shun corruption at all levels, in order not to betray the public trust and confidence on them.
Abolurin who noted that he rejected the offer to maintain his integrity and to uphold the professionalism of the NSCDC said, “Integrity and professionalism are core values of the civil defence corps. And in rejecting the bribe, I have exemplified those values, which you must not only commend but emulate”.
“Let this also serve as a reminder for all like-minded individuals that the integrity of the corps cannot be compromised”, Abolurin warned.
He condemned in totality, mockery directed at the corps’ Lagos State Commandant, Mr Obafaiye Shem, whom he said had not committed any punishable offence that would warrant his suspension as wrongly speculated in the social media.
He said the fact that his Lagos State commandant lost his composure in the process of being interviewed does not call for sanction.
He however did not confirm whether the man was on suspension or not.
It would be recalled that the much celebrated saga, “My oga at the top” came into lime light after the said commandant granted an interview to Channel Television.
